Clothing for your Portraits
We very strongly encourage a pre-session consultation to discuss what you desire to have as a final portrait product, and to advise you on clothing choices. We want to create something special that you will treasure for generations to come.

Clothing preparation for families and groups is of major concern. Solids are highly recommended. Prints and patterns distract and can clash with patterns worn by another family member. The best advise is to think of the entire family's apparel as one outfit. So, don't put a print or color on another family member that you would not add to your own outfit. Everyone’s clothing should blend and go together. A little planning here will result in a far superior portrait. Please ask us for help in this area. Also take into consideration the room where the portrait will hang. It’s best to wear colors that will complement the decor of the room. If the intended room is decorated in pastels or other light colors, keep your clothing light as well. If the portrait will hang in a darker room, such as a den, library or above a wooden fireplace mantle, then select clothing in darker shades such as black, deep reds, deep greens and navy. Khaki works well with light and dark colors. Black tops with blue jeans is a great and very popular casual look for families!

Clothing for children should be simple. Outfits that are too ornate or detailed, with patterns, prints or pictures, will distract from your child's precious face which of course should be the focus of the portrait! Solid colors with simple accessories photograph very well. The mood of the portrait plays a role here as well. The more casual the portrait, the more casual and "fun" the clothing can be. College alma mater gear is a favorite of parents and grandparents for baby and children portraits!

Seniors' clothing is all about personal style! We encourage Seniors to bring many outfits, and we can help them choose what will photograph best. We recommend some outfits that Mom or Dad will like, and some that the Senior likes. More formal attire, including jackets, sweaters and dress pants will photograph well for classic, timeless portraits. Fun clothes that are today's fashion will be favorites of the Senior for wallets and gift portraits. We recommend you stay away from very busy patterns and large logos or pictures on clothing. We encourage all Seniors to bring uniforms and sports gear, musical instruments, and letter jackets... anything that represents the Senior's activities and even hobbies, such as shopping bags, shoes, art and paintings... anything that shows the Senior's personality and personal interests.
